Morning Walk

Whenever I get  a chance, I love to take an early morning walk, especially after a light rain.  This poem tells about that:

                                                       Leaves, shaking off rain
                                                         like a dog ridding itself
                                                      of bath water,
give me a nice, cool shower
as I begin my morning walk.
                                                          Periwinkle, known locally as
                                                       blue myrtle, peeks its
                                                          blue eyes through leaves
                                                       of forest green
                                                         and watches me
                                                       as I continue
                                                           on my way.

Seeking Peace

Sometimes when my world seems hectic, and I've had about all I can take, I seek "woodland peace."

                                                                   I'm tired,
                                                             I want to find
                                                       A pine needle covered
                                                                   tote road
                                                             to follow to its end.
                                                       I no longer need
                                                                 the concrete
                                                             sidewalk or glaring
                                                        streetlights of town.
                                                                 The full moon
                                                             can give me
                                                        the peace I so desperately
                                                                   seek.
                                                               Let me lie down
                                                         next to  a tumbling brook,
                                                               allowing it to lull
                                                                    me to sleep.
If I awake, all is fine.
                                                               If not, at least
                                                                     I'll be
                                                           Where I found my peace.

Who's there?

My walk with spirituality, and old housess  and people have taken me in many directions.  This poem I dedicate to that walk:

                    Someone came knocking
                              at my door last night.
                                 Uncle Karl thought perhaps
it was old Mrs. Ward from
                     "Down Steamboat Avenue'  way.
                              She used to come for
                                  butter and cottage cheese
                                    when Grandma was still alive.
" I thought Mrs. Ward died
years ago?"  I said to Uncle
                                  Karl who was smoking his
                                       pipe near the fireplace.
That she did."  He said taking
another puff.   " But so did
                                  Grandma." was all that he
                                        answered.
                         After staring at the door
                                for another few minutes,
                                   I turned out the kitchen
                                        lights, and went to bed.
